Utah State Legislation: Past and Present

2011-2012: This is the year for autism legislation! Each of us must remember: If it is to be, it is up to me!
1. Start by finding your legislators. Go to: http://www.le.state.ut.us/GIS/findDistrict.jsp and enter your address.

2. Call your legislators. Use these autism facts to help you know what to say when you contact them. We encourage you to be positive in your message, thank them for their time, and highlight the above fore-mentioned autism facts.

3. Report back on your experience. Send an email to utahautismcoalition@gmail.com telling us who you contacted and how it went!

2010 

Medicaid Autism Waiver passed in 2010. This legislation requires Division of Health Care Financing to develop a range of options for a Medicaid Autism Waiver.

The Autism Disabilities and Faith Bill passed in 2010. The bill designates April 29 through May 2, 2010 as Autism, Disabilities and Faith Week in the state of Utah. It also recognizes the importance of fully integrating persons with autism and other disabilities and their families into all Utah faith-based organizations.

License Plate Bill passed in 2010. Money raised will benefit the Autism Council of Utah. Applicants would be required to make a $25 annual donation to an Autism Awareness Restricted Account.

2009 

Clay's Law was introduced into the Utah State legislature in 2009. The bill passed the senate first. Then the bill was withdrawn from the House of Representatives.

Federal Legislation

ATAA (Autism Treatment Acceleration Act) is the Federal bill that will allow coverage for autism children across the country.
